Red & Sensitive

What are the red flags?

+

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. It typically develops in adults between the ages of 30 and 50 and is more common in people with fair skin, though it can affect anyone.

Common Symptoms of Rosacea

+

  • Facial Redness (Erythema): Persistent redness, often on the cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead.
  • Visible Blood Vessels (Telangiectasia): Small, spider-like veins appear on the skin.
  • Bumps and Pimples: Red, swollen bumps resembling acne (but not true acne).
  • Eye Irritation (Ocular Rosacea): Dryness, burning, or swollen eyelids in some cases.
  • Thickened Skin (Rhinophyma): Rare, but can cause the nose to become enlarged and bumpy (more common in men).

Triggers of Rosacea Flare-Ups

+

  • Heat & Sun Exposure
  • Spicy Foods & Hot Drinks
  • Alcohol (especially red wine)
  • Stress & Emotional Upset
  • Wind & Cold Weather
  • Certain Skincare Products (alcohol, fragrances, harsh exfoliants)

Treatment & Management

+

  • Topical Medications(e.g., metronidazole, azelaic acid)
  • Oral Antibiotics(e.g., doxycycline) for inflammation
  • Laser Therapy(for visible blood vessels)
  • Gentle Skincare(fragrance-free, non-irritating products)
  • Avoiding Triggers(identifying and minimizing exposure)
